Norwood CPF Weekly Report – 18/10/2010

Greetings to all of you out there.  I trust that we all had a great weekend and that this is going to be a good week for all of us.

Please also see the website for an announcement regarding the Certifying of documents by the Norwood SAPS.  The procedure for this has changed!

I have a bone to pick with some of the people that live and frequent our wonderful suburbs-  There appears to be some members of our society that think it is right to defraud the insurance companies in order to replace old, outdated computers or goods.  I say this as there has been a marked increase in reports of thefts of laptops to the Norwood SAPS.  More often then not it is the only item stolen from a house or from a vehicle.  Yes, you may argue, that a laptop is an easy to steal item, the convenience though, is suspicious.

We must all Lead SA and Shout out against criminal activities.  This includes defrauding your insurer, which is a criminal offence.  Your actions have an affect on my, our families and friends insurance premiums.  A higher number of claims results in larger increases in premiums for everyone not just the person claiming.  If this is happening here it is happening everywhere.

Crime report – 11th – 18th October 2010
Trio crimes

There were no trio crimes for the period.

Other crimes

Motor vehicle related:
Thefts out of motor vehicles – 8 occurrences – Melrose (5 – Oxford Rd, Tottenham Ave, Melrose Arch x 2, Glenhove, ), Houghton (11th Ave off-ramp x 2) & Orchards (Oaklands Rd).

PLEASE BE AWARE – The off-ramps off of the M1 highway @ Glenhove.
Call the police on 10111 if you see any suspicious persons at this offramp.  The SAPS have tried to catch the man who is preying at this intersection but he scampers onto the Golf Course and into the storm water drains.

Theft of MV – 7 occurrences – Highlands North (4th Ave, Louis Botha, 7th Ave), Orange Grove (10th Ave), Houghton (At Old Ed’s), Norwood (Henrietta) & Waverley (Murray Str).

House break-ins – 8 occurrences – Norwood (Iris Rd, Nellie Rd, Orchards Rd), Orange Grove (4th Str, 11th Str), Houghton (11th Ave & West Str), Fellside (Forbes Str).

Burglary Businesses – 2 occurrences – Norwood (Grant Ave) & in Melrose (Corlett Drive).

Other crimes – There were a number of Assault cases and a Domestic violence case reported.  Usually these are triggered by alcohol.  If you would like to object to a liquor outlet or place of entertainment please do so. We will compile these as our objections to liquor being sold in our area.  Alcohol is fuelling the Assaults especially around the “clubs” on Louis Botha Ave.

LOOKOUT:

The Rolex gang is now using a Black Range Rover license – YRD 571 GP – if spotted call 10111.

Crime prevention tips:

I have been approached by a company that would like to offer services to install a system that prevents electric gates from being lifted off of their hinges.  If anyone is interested please email us back and we will put you in touch with them.

Thanks once again to all that respond to our emails.  I endeavour to return the correspondence and sometimes this does take time.  The CPF will be launching a large recruitment and funding drive over the next few months.  All those that are interested in getting on board please would you contact me on the details provided below.

Yours,
